Day of the Dead workshops and parade The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday which involves family and friends gathering to pray for, and remember, friends and family members who have died, and helping support their spiritual journey. In Mexican culture, death is viewed as a natural part of the human cycle. Mexicans view it not as a day of sadness, but as a day of celebration because their loved ones awake and celebrate with them. FREE creative workshop Saturday 2 November 2019 2pm to 4pm Monkton Arts, East Street, Ryde No need to book - just turn up! From making masks, sugar skulls and paper marigolds - get creative in our Day of the Dead workshops. They are being held ahead of our grand parade. Suitable for all ages, but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. FREE upcycling workshop Saturday 2 November 2019 2pm to 4pm Bar 74, Union Street, Ryde No need to book - just turn up! Sassy Film Productions will be hosting an upcycling workshop. Bring your dresses, skirts, trousers and shirts and upcycle them into a Mexican inspired outfit. Day of the Dead Parade - FREE entry Saturday 2 November 2019 4:30pm Ryde High Street No need to book, just turn up! Come and join in our Day of the Dead parade as we march down Ryde High Street with a spectacular display of costumes and lanterns. The event will be the culmination of work by the community to prepare and make artwork relating to the Day of the Dead festival.
