Anthea Weekes will offer you an evening of “Songs for You” at Mountbatten for our 7 July concert.

Anthea’s first public singing debut was in Lichfield Police Station…..but that’s another story!

As a child she was surrounded by music: both parents sang, she was in church and school choirs, had piano lessons and performed in the local Operatic Society.

While training as a teacher she made the mistake of asking to borrow a piano and ended up studying music.  The course came with singing lessons which started with a passion.  Although she has continued vocal training, she has kept that passion as a hobby.

Since moving to the Island, Anthea has performed several times at the Apollo Theatre, including Music Halls, a Gershwin Revue, a Pantomime (the Baddie!), and the musical accompaniment for “The Selkie Wife”.  She has also sung in two quintet performances with Vocal Chords in Bembridge, including opera, operetta and songs from shows.

More recently, Anthea has started to put together her own “Songs for You” concerts, with her husband, Stephen, as a technical back-up.  She has performed these in venues across the Island, some as cabaret-style entertainments and others for charity fund-raisers.  She really enjoys these as they give her the opportunity to perform a wide variety of songs.

Anthea is delighted to be invited to sing at one of the Mountbatten Concerts.  “Songs for You” will include all sorts of music, from fun to more serious: classical, musical theatre, some jazz, and hopefully, something for everyone.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy a summer evening of music.
