Why can’t I register for Walk the Wight in a Mountbatten shop?

We take the security of your personal data seriously. Considering the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) we have reviewed all of our data processing processes, including WTW registrations in our shops. Registering in a Mountbatten shop requires the participant to complete a paper registration form. The regulations that govern the security of data contained on a paper form are rigorous. With the volume of paper forms that WTW generates, we do not have the resources across our ten shops or within our fundraising team to process these records in accordance with GDPR. It is with regret that we must remove registrations from our shops. However, we offer registration over the phone to those who do not have an email address, or access to the internet - we hope this will enable anyone who wishes to Walk the Wight in support of Islanders and their families, to do so.

We are a small team in the fundraising office so if you can register online, that would be a big help.

Why can’t I sign up other people?

To sign up and take part in any Mountbatten event the participant must consent to our terms and conditions. GDPR state that an individual cannot give consent on behalf of another; this means all participants must now sign up and give their consent individually. The exception to this is children under 13, who can only be signed up by their parent/legal guardian.

Can I sign up a team?

You can tell us your team name when registering but each team member will need to complete their registration individually online. GDPR state that an individual cannot give consent on behalf of another; this means all participants must now sign up and give their consent individually. The exception to this is children under 13, who can only be signed up by their parent/legal guardian.

I have tried to register online but it isn’t working. What can I do?

Please call our fundraising team on (01983) 217300. Our office hours are 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday.

Why do I have to pay to receive my fundraising pack?

By bearing the cost of sending you a fundraising pack, more of the money you raise will be spent directly on the people that need our help.

We estimate that over £10,000 will be saved by the introduction of a postage, packing and processing fee. That’s a huge amount of money that can now be spent caring for Island people.

We understand that this is a change to what we have done in the past and urge people to contact us directly should it pose any difficulties for anyone.

I haven’t received my pack, what should I do?

Please allow two weeks for your pack to arrive. If it hasn’t arrived after two weeks, please call us on (01983) 217300. Our office hours are 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday.

When does online registration close?

You can register for a fundraising pack until 21 April at 11:55pm.

After this time, you will be able to register for a £15 walker number only ticket which entitles you to collect your walker number at the start line of any walk.

Can I register on the day?

A limited amount of on the day registration will be available for a minimum donation of £20 per adult, £10 per child. Groups/ families of 3 or more: £10 per adult, £5 per child.

My sponsorship form has been pre-printed with my name, address and walker number - why is this?

By printing your details onto the form this will help us to record the money you raise accurately on our database. It will also save us time and resources reconciling sponsorship forms that are returned to us without names and walker numbers written on them.

I need to cancel my registration/ I can’t take part anymore; can I get a refund?

You may request to cancel your registration for a full refund, up to 7 calendar days before the date and time of the event. Cancellations less than 7 days before the event will not be refunded.

All refunds are subject to a cancellation fee that will be calculated based on the value of the items ordered when you registered.  All processing, postage and packing fees are non-refundable, regardless of if you have received your pack. You are responsible for the cost of returning any items to us and these costs are non-refundable.

If you have received your pack you will need to return your walker number and sponsorship form back to us along with proof of your registration, refunds will only be processed once we have received these items. Once received we will initiate a refund, less cancellation fee, to your original method of payment.  If your fundraising pack included a t shirt or other merchandise, this must be returned to us in its original packaging along with your walker number, sponsorship form and proof of purchase to be eligible for a refund. Upon receipt, we will inspect the item(s). If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund, less cancellation fee, to your original method of payment.

I have registered my dog to take part, why have I not received a separate pack/sponsorship form?

Dogs cannot be recorded as individuals on our database and we spend a considerable amount of time and resources on matching dogs to their owners, where names and walker numbers have not been recorded properly on sponsorship forms. We hope that by the owner and dog having the same sponsorship form, printed with both your details (see above), this will save us time and resources and will help us to record the money you both raise accurately on our database.

Why can’t I register more than two dogs?

All dogs must be kept on a lead and under control during the event and we expect a participant to be able to control a maximum of two dogs at any one time. Therefore, registration is limited to two dogs per person.

I forgot to register my dog(s) when I signed up. Can I register them separately/individually?

If you are already registered, we can register up to two of your dogs over the phone. This will incur a £1.50 postage, packing and processing fee per dog. Please call our fundraising office on (01983) 217300. Unfortunately, we are not able to facilitate a Donate £10 pack over the phone as we do not hold a stock of WTW19 doggy bandanas in our office.

Please note: we no longer send dogs a separate fundraising pack. Dogs are added to their owner’s registration. Please refer to above FAQ ‘I have registered my dog to take part, why have I not received a separate pack/sponsorship form?’ for more detail.

Why can’t I register my grandson/niece/godson etc? [Under 13 years old]

Under GDPR, only a parent/legal guardian can provide a child’s personal data and consent to our terms and conditions. Therefore, we can only register a child that you are legally responsible for. Children aged 13 years and over are permitted to provide their personal information and consent themselves and can register individually.

All children under 16 must be accompanied at the event/on the walk by their parent/legal guardian or by another registered participant who has the permission of the parent/legal guardian to accompany that child.

I’m doing the walk with my grandson/niece/godson [etc], but their parent can’t walk with us, what do I do? [Under 13 years old]

The parent of the child will have to register themselves and the child, but you can still walk with them on the day if you have their parents’ permission (see above).

I forgot to register my child/children when I signed up. Can I sign them up separately/as an individual?

If you are already registered, we can register your child over the phone. Please call our fundraising office on (01983) 217300.

I’ve registered to do the full walk/half walk/flat walk (etc) but want to do a different walk. What should I do?

You can take part in any walk, provided you are wearing your walker number. The fundraising pack you will/have received contains all the information you need to take part in any walk*.
