Aims

To improve understanding of the reasons why people in later life may fall, and ways in which we can prevent falls from happening.

Participants

Suitable for everyone working within a care home, or in a domiciliary care setting.

Methods

Presentation, interactive discussion, small group work, written materials provided.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this short session, participants should be able to:

  • describe the impact that falls can have on an older person
  • be more aware of the reasons why falls are often unreported and how we might spot the signs
  • be more aware of the common reasons why an older person may fall, and what we can do to prevent falls from happening
  • share knowledge within the workplace or with friends and family
  • introduce a small change within the workplace, to try to prevent falls
