Hundreds turn out for hospice’s Santa Dash

A flurry of Santas parked up their sleighs and dashed to Ryde seafront on Sunday (3 December 2017) for Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s annual fundraiser.

It was a bumper turnout for this year’s Santa Dash, which attracted around 360 participants who ran, jogged and walked the 5k course along the esplanade, through Puckpool and Appley Park twice and back again. As well as Santas, there were many reindeer and santa dogs, and mini Santas in buggies.

Although all sponsorship money has yet to be submitted, it is estimated that over £4000 has been raised so far.
Dani Johnson, Community Events Fundraiser, said: “It was festive, fun and buzzing! Thanks to Helen from Boogie Bounce and DJ Dan, the crowd were well warmed up and filled with festive cheer before they set out. Our hosts Ryde Superbowl have also been fantastic, and we’re so grateful for their support in making such a great event.”

Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, who started the dash, said: “It was an incredible atmosphere, and an amazing sight to see so many Santas dashing along the seafront. We are so thankful to everyone who took part, our volunteers and helpers who together have raised a fantastic amount towards our work in supporting people when they need us most, wherever they are on the Isle of Wight.”
