Local produce celebrated at Earl Mountbatten Hospice

Earl Mountbatten Hospice, which this year celebrates 35 years of caring for people and families across the Isle of Wight, is strengthening its support for Island food producers by promoting local ingredients in its Sunflower Café.
The hospice has, for many years, used the freshest produce from the Isle of Wight and is now keen to build on those relationships by using even more homegrown foods.
This week, delicious Island Tomatoes have been served to Sunflower Café customers, who include members of the public, visitors, carers, staff and volunteers. Vera Mircescu, Head of Catering at Earl Mountbatten Hospice, said: “We have had wonderful feedback from customers about this week’s menus, which have celebrated produce by Island Tomatoes. Our food is always made of the freshest ingredients, and we use local produce as much as possible. I’d be delighted to hear from any suppliers who would be interested in working with us in the future”.
As part of the hospice’s continued support for Island produce, it is delighted to be involved in the production of a new book, Nammet: A Celebration of Isle of Wight Food and Drink. Due for release in the summer, the book will feature contributions and recipes from well-known people with Island connections alongside information about Island producers. Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Further details about the book, which is published by Medina Publishing, will be released shortly.
About the Sunflower Cafe
The Sunflower Café is open to members of the public, providing a tasty and varied selection of home-made cakes, pastries and quiches. A hot meal of the day is also available, as well as a ‘specials’ choice, which changes daily. The café is set in a modern and lively dining area, which leads onto outside decking in a quiet, secluded environment. On Sundays, customers can enjoy a delicious three-course lunch from 12noon to 2pm, costing just £7.95 (£5 for children). Bookings must be made for Sunday lunch by calling (01983) 217320.
