Why take part?
Support hospice care
Every year, people who take part in Mountbatten’s Walk the Wight raise a phenomenal amount of money, which enables us to continue to develop our services for Islanders and their families when they need us most. Every year, we must raise over £7m to provide our services for free to those we currently support. But there are still thousands of Islanders living with life threatening illnesses who only get access to our services right at the end of their lives. Our mission is to make sure every Islander is supported through death and bereavement in the most appropriate way possible. Our services need to expand and for that we need to raise even more funds to develop this work, which is why your fundraising is so important in helping us to achieve this goal. Thank you.
Remember someone close to you who has died
Mountbatten's Walk the Wight is an opportunity for many people to walk in memory of someone who has died, wherever that death may have taken place. On the day of Walk the Wight, smiles, tears and memories are shared and with every step people hold their loved one's in their thoughts. We know how important it is to do something in order to remember those we have lost. By way of acknowledging this and thanking participants for their support, everyone who registers for Walk the Wight 2018 will receive a packet of sunflower seeds in their walker pack, which we encourage people to plant in memory of someone close to them who has died.
Walk the Wight is a collection of five walks over varing distances. From the epic 26 mile Full Walk to the 8 mile wheelchair accessible Flat Walk and the 4 mile Schools Walk - all ages and abilities can take part to challenge themselves and support the hospice. Be part of something BIG!
Walk the Wight is the largest fundraising event on the Isle of Wight and continues to be our best supported event; one which has a unique ability to unite our Island and those beyond to support our cause. In 2017 over 8,400 men, women, children and dogs took part and were supported by 300 event staff and volunteers. Walk the Wight is made possible thanks to the continuing commitment of over 60 sponsors, landowners, local businesses, suppliers, and voluntary groups. We couldnt do it without them, or you!
The atmosphere on the day is incredible; thousands of people walking together with a common purpose, it's truly awe-inspiring! If you haven't yet Walked the Wight, be part of it this year and create a memory you will cherish forever!
