As the Isle of Wight celebrates Beer Day Britain TODAY (15 June), a tasty tipple, made by a local beer company, is raising vital funds for a much-loved charity.

Yates’ Brewery produces ‘Old Man Yatesy,’ named after the brewery’s founder, David Yates Senior, who, in October 2025, died in the care of Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

“The treatment my dad got from Mountbatten Isle of Wight was unreal, unbelievable. We wanted to give something back,” said David’s son, also called David Yates.

For every bottle sold (not just on Beer Day Britain!), Yates’ Brewery donates 5p towards Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s 24/7 care, 85 per cent of which is delivered in homes across the Island. The rest of its end-of-life support, for Islanders and their families, is through an Inpatient Unit and day services, at Newport’s John Cheverton Centre community space.

Yates’ Brewery’s head brewer, Josh Davies, carefully crafts small batches of this dark ale with aromas of raisins, plum and roasted malt. Oats and wheat combine, in this typically 7.2% ABV ale, giving a warming feeling. The magic happens in Newchurch, where the brewery is based and the drink uses David Yates Senior’s original recipes.

Enjoy an ‘Old Man Yatesy’ with Yates’ Brewery to support Mountbatten Isle of Wight and help David Yates’ legacy lives on.
