Around 80 players competed at the 2026 West Wight Tennis Tournament, in aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, raising over three and half thousand pounds.

The event, which has been running for 30 years, took place in July. Matches are played on courts across the area.

The winners were Peter Burger and ‘Thrup’ Pakenham-Walsh, who triumphed over runners-up, Melissa Hooper and Doug O'Keefe, 6-3 6-2.

After the sport concluded, a buffet was served at Westover House in Calbourne, provided by Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s catering team and hosted by Caroline Weeks.

The event raised £3,528.25 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

The West Wight Tennis Tournament was attended by Mountbatten CEO, Becky McGregor, who spoke about the work of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, explaining that over 85 per cent of its 24/7 end-of-life care is in homes across the Island and through day services and outpatients at Newport's John Cheverton Centre, with the rest on its inpatient unit.

Demand for Mountbatten’s care is growing and the charity reaches around 70 per cent of all deaths on the Island, compared to a national average of around 30 per cent.

Working with David Robinson, John Clarke and Adam Pay, organiser Chris Goodman said he was thankful the weather was not too hot on the day.

Chris said: "I am very grateful to my team, who support and help in so many different ways.

“I also want to acknowledge the tremendous support from many friends in the commercial sector, who provided, and in most cases donated, the produce which Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s catering team, led by Vera Mircescu, turned into a wonderful buffet.

“Lastly, a big thank you to our many court owners who kindly loan their courts each year. This was a pleasing result, in aid of Mountbatten, and we are proud to support this very worthy cause again."
