About us News & events Dementia for Business A Mountbatten pilot scheme to support Island businesses to be dementia friendly has been hailed a great success. The ‘Dementia for Business’ session was delivered by Mountbatten’s dedicated education and training team. Dementia is now the biggest cause of death in the UK and, as experts in supporting people at the end of life, Mountbatten is committed to continuing to lead on developing suitable services for our Island community, as well as supporting and educating partners to deliver care to those who need it. The first group who benefitted from the session were from Precision Painters and Decorators, Hose Rhodes Dixon, DWP, Island Roads and Minted Cleaning Company. Linda Prendergast, Education and Learning Facilitator/Practitioner at Mountbatten said: “With the number of people living with dementia set to rise by over 1 million by 2025, it’s so important that we consider how it can have an impact on the daily lives of people living with the disease. The organisations that have trained with us have told us that they will now be more aware of the needs of customers who show signs of dementia, making sure they empathise and take time to be patient.” The course received excellent feedback from delegates and it is hoped it can be included in Mountbatten’s regular programme of education and training. Any businesses which would be interested in taking part in future Dementia for Business training can contact the Education and Training Team at Mountbatten on (01983) 529511.
