HSBC has supported Mountbatten in various ways for many years, from volunteering, fundraising, and hosting events. Staff use their volunteering hours as part of their corporate social responsibility scheme to keep the gardens at the hospice looking glorious.

In May this year, a team of 10 hardworking HSBC staff volunteered all day in the lovely hot sun to clear, weed and power wash our gardens, courtyard, and play area as well as repaint our fencing.

Jackie Routledge, HSBC Customer Service Representative, leads the HSBC volunteering team with genuine enthusiasm and commitment, she said: “Coming here, for me, I find it really inspiring, the very first day I visited which was around 2007 I never felt like it was a traditional hospice and I just want everyone to feel how I feel about it and that’s why I do what I do.”

“The hospice is just amazing, it’s just not what you think it would be. Until you come up here, I don’t think you can really understand it. I love getting my team through that door and for them to not be afraid of coming here.

“My colleague Anna who has never done one of these days before said this morning “I can’t believe how rewarding this is and how fulfilled I feel.” Other colleagues commented it was one of the best volunteering days they had been involved in.”

Thanks to the HSBC team’s hard work, our hospice gardens will be enjoyed by patients and their families, as well as staff and volunteers, and visitors to our Mountbatten Café, which is open to the public seven days a week, serving a range of freshly made hot and cold food, drinks, snacks, and delicious cakes and afternoon tea’s.
