Aim

This study day is essential for anyone who works in care and will provide information and practical skills to ensure that we are all providing high quality care to those most vulnerable in our community, whether they are living within their own homes or in a residential or nursing home.

  • Tissue Viability
  • Bowel, catheter and stoma care 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this short course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain common infections and demonstrate control measures including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Consider the importance of fluids and nutrition and the maintenance of good oral health.
  • Discuss issues relating to continence. This will include the care of catheters and stoma care.
  • Consider skin integrity to ensure we recognise what leads to pressure injury and how to support the management of good tissue viability.
