My child wants to complete the final four miles, what is the date?

Walk the Wight takes place on Sunday 14 May 2023

Where does the final four miles start and finish?

The Schools Walk starts at HF Holidays, Freshwater Bay House, Freshwater, PO40 9RB, at 10am (check in from 9am) and finishes at The Needles Park, Alum Bay New Road, PO39 0JD

Do I have to pay to walk with my child?

Under 16s must walk with an adult when taking part in the Schools Walk. One adult is free, but if you'd like to bring more people to walk with you, they will need to register on the day for a suggested minimum donation of £10 per adult and £5 per child.

Can we park our car at Freshwater?

Please note, there is no parking at Freshwater Bay, so please park in the designated parking field at Alum Bay (follow event signage) from 8.30am and jump on the event shuttle bus to the Schools Walk start.

The shuttle service runs until 10.45am.

Can we get a bus to the start line?

You and your child can travel for free on any Southern Vectis bus when you show your child’s walker number (additional passengers will be charged at the usual rates).

Departures from Newport Bus Station to the start line: 08:45, 09:15

Departures from the finish line to Newport Bus Station: 13:20, then every 10 minutes until 19:00

There is also a shuttle service from The Needles car park to the schools start line from 8.30am - 10.45am.

Can we use the event to fundraise for other charities?

The event is organised by Mountbatten and all costs are borne by the charity. Therefore, we ask that you do not use our events to support any other charities.

Why can’t I register my grandson/niece/godson etc? [Under 13 years old]

Under GDPR, only a parent/legal guardian can provide a child’s personal data and consent to our terms and conditions. Therefore, you can only register a child that you are legally responsible for. Children aged 13 years and over are permitted to provide their personal information and consent themselves and can register individually.

All children under 16 must be accompanied at the event/on the walk by their parent/legal guardian or by another registered participant who has the permission of the parent/legal guardian to accompany that child.

I’m doing the walk with my grandson/niece/godson (etc), but their parent can’t walk with us, what do I do? [Under 13 years old]

The parent of the child will have to register themselves and the child, but you can still walk with them on the day if you have their parents’ permission (see above).

Why can’t I register for Walk the Wight in a Mountbatten shop?

We take the security of your personal data seriously. When the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) were introduced, we reviewed all of our data processing processes, including WTW registrations in our shops. Registering in a Mountbatten shop required the participant to complete a paper registration form. The regulations that govern the security of data contained on a paper form are rigorous. With the volume of paper forms that WTW generates, we do not have the resources across our ten shops or within our fundraising team to process these records in accordance with GDPR. It is with regret that we had to remove registrations from our shops. However, we offer registration over the phone to those who do not have an email address or access to the internet - we hope this will enable anyone who wishes to Walk the Wight in support of Islanders and their families, to do so.

We are a small team in the fundraising office so if you can register online, that would be a big help.

I have tried to register online but it isn’t working. What can I do?

Please call our fundraising team on 01983 217300, Mon-Fri, 08:30-16:30.

How does my child become a Top Fundraiser?

We are rewarding our top fundraisers!

Walkers who raise more than £500 (silver award) or £1000 (gold award) by April 14 will receive a special keepsake and be invited into the hospice for a VIP Walk the Wight reception ahead of the event.

All you have to do is send us a picture of your sponsor form or a link to your child's fundraising page by 1pm on April 14 to show much they've raised.

Please send your proof to [email protected]

The school that raises the most in sponsorship overall will win a special trophy.

When will I receive my child's walker pack?

After you register, you will receive an email with a link to your online fundraising page, as well as a paper sponsorship form to print at home. Your printed fundraising pack, walker number, as well as any T-shirts and dog bandanas (if you have ordered them) should be delivered to your home within two weeks.

If you still haven't received your pack two weeks after registering, call us on 01983 217300 Mon-Fri, 08:30-16:30.

When does online registration close?

You can register your child online for a postal fundraising pack until 20 April at 09:00 am.

After this date, you will still be able to register them online but they will not receive their walker number or fundraising pack in the post.

You will be able to collect their walker number from the Freshwater start line on the day.

Can I register on the day?

We will be offering on the day registrations, for a donation of £10 per adult and £5 per child. We will have contactless payment options available if you don't have cash.

I need to cancel my registration/ I can’t take part anymore; can I get a refund?

You may request to cancel your registration for a full refund, less cancellation fee, up to 7 calendar days before the date and time of the event. Cancellations less than 7 days before the event will not be refunded.

All refunds are subject to a cancellation fee that will be calculated based on the value of the items ordered when you registered.  All processing, postage and packing fees are non-refundable, regardless of if you have received your pack. You are responsible for the cost of returning any items to us and these costs are non-refundable.

If you have received your pack you will need to return your walker number, sponsorship form and any merchandise back to us along with proof of your registration. Refunds will only be processed once we have received these items. Once received we will initiate a refund, less cancellation fee, to your original method of payment.  If your fundraising pack included a t shirt or other merchandise, this must be returned to us in its original packaging along with your walker number, sponsorship form and proof of purchase to be eligible for a refund. Upon receipt, we will inspect the item(s). If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund, less cancellation fee, to your original method of payment.
