Mountbatten Neighbours support older people across the Isle of Wight who are living with chronic life-limiting illnesses, and with frailty, and those that are feeling isolated from their local community.

Neighbours offer their time, companionship, and support, and develop natural, mutual friendships. They are valued by those they visit.

A Mountbatten Neighbour will usually visit or meet with someone for at least one hour a week, but it can be more if you choose.

As a Neighbour you will:

  • Offer friendship and a listening ear.
  • Support people to do the things they like and enjoy.
  • Support people to stay connected to their community, family & friends.
  • Visit for a cup of tea and a chat, or go for walks.
  • Explain the services Mountbatten provides, which can help those you support live well with their illness.
  • Support people in making a plan for their future care to ensure that their wishes and preferences are known and considered.

Full training will be given, and you will be supported by a Mountbatten volunteer coordinator and benefit from monthly development sessions, coffee meet-ups, and further training. We want this experience to enhance your life and the people you support.
